Quadcopter

The Quadcopter team built a four-rotor helicopter using a variety of sensors to ensure stable flight. The craft carried a high-definition camera on board, enabling the capture of footage from angles otherwise impossible to reach. The team worked with other Yale organizations and departments to producing everything from art installations to promotional media for prospective students.

After a semester of designing, building, and tethered flying in the Fall of 2012, the quadcopter performed its first airborne test on 13 January 13 2013.

For the 2013-2014 year, the team designed a new system of landing gear using springs and sheet metal while improving parts from previous flights. These efforts improved the safety and stability of the quadcopter as we again tested it outdoors.
